Task 3

Task 3 - Potentialities of the digital in the classroom 馃挏

In this task, we had to create a comic and out of the styles we could choose we elected cave art style. The story of our comic ‘Outside the cavern’ was based on the myth of the cavern and it consisted of a group of children who had been living in a cave their whole lives and suddenly one of them starts investigating and finds a hole in the cave. In order to develop the task we draw our comic by hand using Picsart. Finally, we had to explain to our colleagues how we performed the task.

  2. Journalist: Ana Isabel.
  3. Facilitator: Elena.
  4. Star: Alicia.
  5. Translator: Daniela.
  6. Curator: Ana Mar铆a

Analyst's Reflection 馃挭

This assignment has certainly been a challenge for our group. We chose to do our comic with cave art thinking that coming up with a good result wouldn’t be very difficult. And it is a fact that doing something out of our comfort zone is an even greater effort. 馃槗

Getting to understand how we were supposed to elaborate our comic with cave art was the worst part of the week. At first, we used Storyboardthat and this is a very useful application, but it did not fit what we needed to do.We were very discouraged by not really knowing what to do. 馃槙馃槙

Regarding the worst part of the task in particular, we considered having to remake the poster using a different format and eliminating the speech bubbles we had introduced in the first sketch, as they weren’t characteristic of cave art. Even though we had our storyline, we had to produce it without relying on any text. In addition to that, we didn’t have a clue how to represent cave art so the result would be appropriate.

On the contrary, the best part of the week and of the activity was coming up with the main narrative thread of the story we wanted to tell.馃挕 What we were elaborating recalled our groupmate Ana Isabel somehow of the famous myth of the cave by Plato. Once we found our main inspiration to develop our own story, it was very easy to work and we were really motivated to portray our thoughts on the comic.

As a group, we have created a very nice atmosphere where we can share our opinions freely and it is very pleasant to work in. Although there were some moments of stress, we always helped each other and teamed up to hand over the assignment successfully. We should improve our time management, but apart from that, I feel that we make a good team. 馃槃

With this task, we have learned a great deal of information about how technologies can enhance children’s learning process and our labor as teachers. This is directly related to our degree and our future career since we will be in charge of teaching in a way that we meet the needs of our students, which include giving them the appropriate skills to get on well in a society that advances faster every day.

We have produced a poster that reads in a more visual way the 5 key elements of this task.

We hope you like it :)馃挋

Self-evaluation:

HAPPY FLOWERS: We think we deserve an 8 out of 10, because despite the difficulty of our comic theme, we finally knew how to handle the situation. We organised our time very well in the end (although this was not the case in the beginning), in order to do it as efficiently as possible. We believe that we all had an equal weight in this task and that we did it well.

ELENA: On this task I deserve a 8 out of 10, as I did not know how to handle the situation. I did my job, I helped my colleagues as much as possible. But I was overwhelmed by not knowing how to carry out the task. I think I deserve this mark because I could have done much more, especially by not overburdening my colleagues. Besides the fact that I didn't fulfil my role perfectly, because of the attitude part.

DANIELA: In this task I deserve a 9 out of 10 because I participate in almost all meetings, if not all of them. This task was probably one of the most difficult for us and my group was overwhelmed, so I was the one who mediated the conflicts and the one who encouraged and motivated my classmates. I proposed solutions all the time and provided ideas and alternatives. I searched for the comics of last years’ students for guidance and suggested making the comic by hand. I also helped in the making of the comic but not as much as other mates.

ANA ISABEL: I believe in this task I deserve a 10 out of 10, as I think it was the task in which I was most involved. I performed the role of the journalist and I decided to opt for doing a video which gathers all the information and it required a big effort!

ANA MAR脥A: In this task, I think I earned a 9 out of 10, remembering the effort I ( and all of us) needed to put into performing it. At first it wasn’t clear what we had to do, and we spent some time doing useless things. Then, once we had already known the steps we had to follow, we started to rebuild the work to improve it. It meant such an enormous work for us, and I stayed there whenever it was necessary, helping and doing my own parts of the task.

PAULA: I think I deserve a 8 out of 10 because I couldn’t participate in all the meetings. This task was a little confusing for us and we changed drastically our comic a few days before the presentation. I participated a lot in the final result because I draw by hand all the figures and I scanned them so Ana Isabel could assemble the comic using PicsArt, but I couldn’t participate in one of the firsts meetings in which my teammates decided the structure of our first comic in StoryboardThat.

ALICIA: In my opinion, I deserve a 10 out of 10 in this task. I was participating and collaborating in every meeting, I did my parts and helped anytime I could. Even though we had some confusions and it was difficult developing the task, I did a great exposition and explanation of our comic without really knowing what we had to explain until the previous 5 minutes.
